I cut the tree out of a big sheet of brown craft paper. I used one of these leaf cut outs for our leaf pattern and then made a little sign with a verse for us to memorize together to put at the top of our tree. At each meal leading up to Thanksgiving we each write one thing that we are thankful for on a leaf, and tape it to our tree.
This has made for wonderful conversations at meal times. The girls usually want me to read to them all the leafs that are already on the tree and then we talk about what they want to put on their next leaf. I am looking forward to Thanksgiving when our Thanksgiving tree will be full of leaves listing all of the blessings the Lord has given us.

Hi Anna!
What a wonderful idea! I'm going to HAVE to do this with my family. It's great to see how well your family is. Please tell Chris we said "Hi" and send our Love to your girls.

I love this idea! And you can keep the tree up past Thanksgiving, too. Nice family tradition in the making!

Anna,
Where did you get your brown paper? I've seen this idea before but was not sure how they did the tree...
Praying all is well.

Hi Carrie!
I am sorry, but I do not think I am going to be much help for you. Rachel works at a pre-school and she was able to get me some from her work. I had the same thought when I was thinking of making the tree. I did not want to buy a whole big roll of the brown craft paper. You might want to check a local teacher supply stores, or think of using a few big pieces of brown construction paper, or maybe use a sheet of poster board and paint a brown tree on it. Even with the brown construction paper I think you might need to buy a package of just brown. I was not able to find brown in any variety packages. Those are all the ideas that I had when I was getting things together to make it ours. Sorry I was not much help!
Anna
i'm totally doing this!
Just dropping by to leave a quick note. I saw your comment at Monica's Rusty Robin blog and noticed that you live in Indiana, too. We just moved to Bloomington from Southern California. Which area do you live in? Are you an Indiana native?
Hope you'll stop by our blog and say "hello"!
Hello again, Anna. What a coincidence that we have both transplanted from So. Cal! We lived in the Santa Clarita Valley. What about you? What brought you to Indiana?
Yes, it is a small world! Isn't it great to connect with others through blogging, etc!
We probably have mutual friends from the SCV. I am sure you know the Tatlock family? We attended Grace Baptist and Placerita Baptist while living in the area. I also have a good friend who worked at Sunshine several years ago (Jan Bernards).
My husband was a motor officer who was injured in an on-duty collision. He was medically retired this Summer. We were glad for the opportunity to leave California and we selected Indiana because it is homeschool friendly, first of all. Also, we liked the scenery, the affordability of homes with land (we have 10 acres), and we, too wanted a slower pace.
We've already made some dear friends in the area and were convinced every day that this was the place that God intended for us!
Take Care.
p.s. Your girls are adorable :)
Just wanted to stop in and say Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you have a wonderful day with your family. :)
Very cute idea and Happy Thanksgiving!
Blessings,
Joy
