A Christmas Tradition

For a little girls who
is our ballerina
The day after thanksgiving usually finds us pulling down boxes filled with Christmas decorations, setting up our Christmas tree, putting up garlands and lights, and adding Christmas cheer to our home. The girls find such delight in seeing what each box holds.

The much anticipated activity of the day is the decorating of the Christmas tree. The girls love rediscovering each ornaments and finding a spot (usually somewhere on the lower forth of the tree) on the tree for each ornament.

play with her  baby dolls

Each year on Christmas day the girls get their own special ornament. Something that represents the last year. Each of our girls also have their own colored ribbon. If they make an ornament or were given an ornament we tie their color ribbon on the ornament so we know in coming years which ornament belongs to who.

 to play dress-up

My mom started this tradition with my sisters and I. When we moved out of the house, she boxed all of our ornaments for us to use in decorating our own Christmas tree. I now have all my childhood ornaments hanging on my tree. What fun memories they bring back each year as they are hung on the tree.

Hi Anna! Your tree is beautiful and I loved seeing your girls Christmas ornaments. :) I was thinking of you the other day and almost emailed you to share this story...

Do you remember when we were in high school, one Christmas you gave me three little angels that you made? I still have those angels and Faith was busy helping me with the tree this year. She was oooing and ahhing over all of the ornaments and she slowly came across the angels... first one, then another and finally the third. She was so excited that we had thee angels because we have three girls in our family. It was so precious and just made me smile.

It also made me so thankful for your friendship... It's amazing to think we've known each other for 17 or 18 years (?)! I love that we are still friends even if we don't see one another often!

Have a beautiful Christmas season!
Sending my love,
Carrie

Your tree is beautiful my friend! I love the precious ornaments for your girls too and your "ribbon" idea. =) We give ornaments, but have started forgetting to whom they belong (oops!), so I need to try your idea... Merry Christmas to a dear sister in the Lord who is a blessing and encouragment to me, through your blog! *Hugs*

Carrie ~ Thanks for sharing your story of Faith! So sweet. My girls also found the angle that you painted and made for me and had fun admiring it and putting it on the tree! I am so thankful for your friendship, and the blessing it has been to me!

Sheri ~ Thank you for stopping by! I also sometime use a fine point Sharpie marker to write the girls initials and the the year on each ornament.
