As we move into the summer months we will be starting a new Bible study. We have been going through this book, which the girls loved, and was very good, I would highly recommend it. I am sure we will be going through it again in the years to come.
"But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."
Galatians 5:22-23
So for our summer study we will be learning about the fruit of the spirit. My plan right now is to highlight a new fruit each week. I was hoping to find a study guide or some curriculum to use but was not able to come up with anything. So, here is what I pieced together and what our study will consist of.
- We will be memorizing Galatians 5:22-23 and also a verse for each of the fruits of the spirit. Love ~ John 15:12, Joy ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:16, Peace ~ Matthew 5:9, Patience ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:14d, Kindness ~ Ephesians 4:32, Goodness ~ Romans 12:21, Faithfulness ~ Luke 16:10a, Gentleness ~ Philippians 4:5, and Self-Control ~ Proverbs 16:32a.
- Coloring the fruits for the week and placing them in a a colored basket that I found here, here, and here.
- I stumbled upon this web sight and will be using some of the ideas and books from here, from their "Joyful Heart Character" curriculum for 4's.
- Reading "A Little Girl After God's Own Heart" by Elizabeth George. This book goes through the fruit of the spirit and is perfect for helping little ones understand what each character trait is practically lived out. This book is beautifully written and illustrated.

- We will be reading some of the stories from "Child's Book of Character Building" by Ron and Rebekah Coriell. My mom also had a set of Character builder books, by the same authors but they are out of print.
- We will also be reading some of the books from the "Valuetale" series. These are also books that my mom owns and we will be borrowing.

I wanted to share a few more resources that we found as we studied the fruits of the Spirit.
- "To Be Like Jesus" This CD is put out by Sovereign Grace Ministries and is based on the fruits of the Spirit. There is a song for each fruit. We have greatly enjoyed learning these songs.
- "The Fruit of the Spirit is Jesus in Me" This is a cute book on the fruits of the Spirit that we were able to borrow from the library, but hope to add to our personal library soon.
- We also enjoyed a series of books on the fruit of the Spirit called "The berry patch bears". These books are out of print but we were able to get them at the library. The one on Faithfulness is "Hi, I'm Cranbeary: The Fruit of the Spirit Is Faithfulness".

Love how you've set up your summer schedule! First time visiting your blog - your girls are beautiful! I have two daughters and love being the mom of girls!
What a motivating post. My little darling is only 23 months so I am still figuring out the Bible memorization thing for her. Any suggestions? I love how purposeful and planned you are in instilling Godly character in your daughters. They will indeed become wonderful women!!! Thank you!
Hi Tracey and Iowa Birdie,
Thank you for stopping by my blog. Welcome!
Iowa Birdie ~ we first had our oldest start memorizing scripture when she moved into the 2 year old class at our old church (she was probably just about your daughters age). She had wonderful teachers who really helped each of the children learn their verses. Each week she had a verse to memorize. I was so amazed at how well and quickly she was able to learn these verses. I made a point to write the verses out on a card or paper and put it in our napkin holder on our kitchen table. This was a great reminder to me to practice her verse with her at each meal time (something we still do). I would love to tell you more about what we currently do. We did this with our kids last year, and it was such good thing for them.
We used both of Elizabeth George's books for boys and girls. My kids also enjoyed these two picture books:

Also, I went to WalMart and bought 9 different kinds of plastic fruit from the craft section, labeled them and put them in a basket. When I discipline my kids, we grab the basket and they pull out the fruit they weren't showing.
