Recently I listened to Carolyn Mahaney Speak on Beauty. I always greatly enjoy listening to Carolyn teach. Thanks to Sovereign Grace Ministries, you can hear many of her teaching lessons for free. All you have to do is download them. In part of her teaching lesson on Beauty she spoke on Psalm 139:16 and posed the question "Do we trust God with our days?". I found what she had to say such a great reminder and it brought encouragement to me. Here is Psalm 139:16 followed by what Carolyn Mahaney had to say."Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them" Psalm 139:16
" Isn't it astounding to think that God has planned our days before there was one of them. Every day of of our lives was mapped out by a sovereign God before we were even born."
Carolyn goes on to say "Every detail of what you experience today.... was written down in Gods book before you were born. Now when we think about our day from that perspective, as we grasp the truth that all the circumstances and situations of our day did not happen by chance, they were actually written down in Gods book before our birth, it helps us to trust God. And not only was this day divinely ordered by God before we were ever born, Romans 8:28 informs us that God is weaving every detail of this day into a pattern of good, to those who love God. There is not an exciting experience, ordinary experience, difficult experience we walk through today that God himself has not allowed and desirous of using it for our good.
When we contemplate this truth it helps us to trust God. When we stop to consider who it is that planed this day; that it is the God who gave his very own son Jesus Christ to die on the cross that we might receive the forgiveness of our sins. Now if this is the one who planned our day, and it most definitely is, then we can unequivocally trust Him.
If we can trust Him for the forgiveness of all our sin then certainly we can trust Him for all the happenings of our day. And when we remember His promises to us, that He will not leave us nor forsake us, not for one single day, that He will help us, and strengthen us, that He will supply our every need, that He holds us with His everlasting arms, and that His goodness and mercy follow us every day of our lives, it infuses our souls with trust.
Ladies, today was written down in God's book before we were ever born. So is tomorrow, so is the day after tomorrow, so is the next day after that, so are all our days. Therefore we can trust God for our days. The woman who trust God will grow to be genuinely beautiful."
Oh, how it brings me comfort when those hard days come to know that God planned those days out. When the challenges of my days are overwhelming, I know that this is what the Lord has for me; this is what he want me to be doing. If I am going to get through those hard days, I can only do it relying on the Lord's strength and grace.
